Kickoff Meeting

The First Step on the Robothon® journey

On Friday, April 29, 2022 the big day has finally arrived. The shaping of the future of robotics in science & industry for our young talents has begun – as we kicked off these year’s Robothon® competition! The Grand Challenge is the perfect opportunity for our participants to demonstrate their capabilities, in order to to develop robotic skills for the sorting and disassembly of electronic waste to promote automation in the circular economy and therefore be an active part of the AI.Industrial.Revolution!

Key Facts

We are excited to announce that this year’s Kickoff was held with a live digital event over Zoom with 20 international Teams, in total 80 developers from 7 continents! The teams had the chance to meet our star-studded panel consisted of our very own Director of munich_i Prof. Sami Haddadin (TUM), Jury Chairs Prof. Tamim  Asfour (KIT), Prof. Patrickvan der Smagt (Volkswagen Group) as well as Prof. Juergen Grotepass representing our Gold Sponsor Huawei, representatives of our Sponsor Conrad Elektronik and Anna von Kaa, who provides us with the webdashboards. During the course of the Kickoff Meeting, the rules and guidelines for the competition were defined, the teams received their score cards for the processing of the task and open questions were clarified!

The world's e-waste is a huge problem

As the claims in the environmental challenges that we face are steadily growing – the challenges of Robothon® are also increasingly demanding! This year, two additional tasks were added to the competition:

Over the next four weeks, the participants will develop autonomous solutions with their robot platforms working with our Internet-of-Things (IoT) competition task boards. You can follow along with each team’s progress on their competition task board on our public competition task board web dashboard.

Teams will prepare a recorded video of the final solutions and are due to submit them along with a 2-page solution write up on Mai 29, 2022, 11:59pm CEST.

Best of luck to all our teams
